Case Background
The lack of unique dining experience places in Malaysia gave the client the idea of creating such a unique dome restaurant. Combining the local culture, eating habits and market demand of Malaysia, the client finally created the SkyDome Hotpot project with Glitzcamp.
Hot pot has always been a favorite of Malaysians. In the early days, the Chinese brought the copper pot shabu-shabu method to Malaysia. Later, the locals improved the ingredients and soup base to adapt to the tropical climate and local tastes, and gradually evolved into today’s rich and diverse hot pot forms.
A stable market guarantees the source of customers, so the client wants to create a unique experience hot pot restaurant to attract more customers.
Why Choose Dome as a Restaurant?
Why did they choose a transparent dome as a restaurant? Of course, it is because of its transparency, which can bring a novel experience to the guests. At the same time, its lighting and ventilation are not inferior to traditional buildings. It can also bring high profits to merchants.
Unique Visual Experience
The dome restaurant adopts a fully transparent design. The use of transparent materials breaks the boundary between indoor and outdoor space. You can directly see the white clouds and blue sky during the day, and eat hot pot under the stars at night. Combined with the use of warm yellow lights, this is undoubtedly a place worth visiting.
Glitzcamp uses transparent PVC tarpaulin to ensure transparency and high quality. Don’t worry about it turning yellow in a short time. The service life of our tarpaulin is 1-3 years.
Advantages of Natural Lighting and Ventilation
Good natural lighting and ventilation are related to the dining comfort of customers. For restaurants whose main business is hot pot, ventilation cannot be ignored.
The fully transparent design allows the restaurant to maximize the use of natural light during the day. It conforms to the concept of energy saving and environmental protection and reduces operating costs.
Hot pot is easy to permeate the entire space during cooking and eating. Traditional restaurants often need to use powerful mechanical ventilation equipment to solve the odor problem. It is costly and the effect may not be ideal. Glitzcamp’s clever vent layout and air circulation channel design have formed a good air circulation system in the restaurant.
High Return on Investment
From the perspective of commercial investment, choosing to build a restaurant with a dome has high economic benefits. This is particularly reflected in the initial investment and subsequent maintenance.
With the same building area, the dome restaurant only needs less steel to build the frame, reducing the cost of raw materials. The structure is relatively regular, and the construction process is not as cumbersome as traditional buildings, reducing labor hours and construction difficulty.
Its simple structure and fewer exposed parts reduce the complexity and workload of maintenance. The material’s surface is smooth, and rainwater can wash away most stains, reducing the need for frequent cleaning.
Construction Challenges & Solutions
There are many challenges when building a dome restaurant. Glitzcamp’s professional team successfully solved the problem with rich experience.
Structural Stability Challenge
The dome’s curved structure and large span need to withstand external forces from all directions. Ensuring the safety of customers and staff is the top priority.
The Glitzcamp team flattens both ends of the rods and then securely fixes them together. This connection method greatly enhances the structure and stability, and can effectively disperse and resist wind force. This structural design can easily withstand strong winds of up to 120km/h. Even if the restaurant is located on the 13th floor, there is no need to worry about strong winds.
Heat Insulation Problem
In the hot summer, the sun shines directly on the transparent material without any shielding, and a large amount of heat will quickly enters the room, seriously affecting the dining comfort of customers. Thicker PVC tarpaulins have better heat insulation effects. Because thicker tarpaulins mean more material to absorb and block heat. Glitzcamp uses 950g/㎡ transparent PVC, which is much thicker than the common 450g/㎡ and 750g/㎡ PVC.
