Case Background
In Tianzhu County, known as the “Eye of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,” lies a vast grassland at the foot of Mayan Snow Mountain—Zhuaxi Xiulong Prairie. The name “Zhuaxi Xiulong,” meaning “A Prosperous, Lucky Grassland” in Tibetan, truly reflects its beauty. With rich grasslands and beautiful mountains, it’s an ideal spot for Tianzhu locals to graze livestock and enjoy outdoor recreation.
To boost the tourism industry in Tianzhu, Glitzcamp has partnered closely with local modular construction company Gansu Chenrui to create Zhuaxi Xiulong Tent City. Given the local climate, Glitzcamp chose heavy-duty winter camping tents for this project, which are different from traditional snow tents. Each of these durable tents is like a small house, specially designed to keep occupants warm and shield them from the cold.
Benefits of Heavy Duty Snow Camping Tents
To create a tent city suitable for long-term cold living, Glitzcamp’s heavy-duty snow camping tents play a vital role, offering key advantages for extreme environments:
Diverse Designs
Glitzcamp offers a variety of snow tent styles, including A-frame, peaked, dome, and custom designs. After discussions with Gansu Chenrui, we selected three unique models for the Zhuaxi Xiulong project: single-peaked tents, double-peaked tents, and double-roof tents. These snow camping tents feature high peaks to help snow and rain slide off easily, adding both beauty and functionality to the site. The diverse peak and interior designs enhance local accommodation options, catering to different groups with unique lodging experiences.
Insulated Warmth
Our snow camping tent is designed with a triple-layered interior fabric. The outer layer is made of 360g/㎡ fire-resistant, matte PVC; the middle layer is double aluminum-foil insulation; and the inner layer is fire- and mold-resistant polyester. Together, these layers block outside cold and keep the interior warm and stable even in frigid temperatures. Walls can be built with insulated materials like sandwich panels, offering better heat retention compared to traditional snow tents.
Superior Durability and Stability
Glitzcamp’s heavy-duty tents for snow camping meet semi-permanent building safety standards. Each tent’s frame is made of high-strength, hot-dip galvanized steel, and covered with durable, tear-resistant PVC fabric (850g/㎡) and PVDF stretch membranes (1050g/㎡). These tents withstand harsh weather conditions, handling wind speeds up to 120 km/h and snow loads of 0.3KN/㎡ (around 200mm thick). With proper maintenance, the frame can last 10-15 years, even in extreme weather, and the cover fabric can last up to 5-8 years.
Modular Design
Built at elevations of 2,878–3,425 meters, these tents minimize on-site work and maximize safety through modular design. All components are pre-fabricated and shipped in compact packages for quick assembly. This design makes setting up a tent in snow efficient and manageable, even on challenging terrain, and can be completed within just a few days.
Challenges
In setting up a tent in the snow for the Zhuaxi Xiulong project, Glitzcamp tackled two main challenges:
Protecting the Environment
Zhuaxi Xiulong Prairie has a cold, humid climate, with an average annual temperature of -2°C, 400mm of rainfall, and only 76 frost-free days. Crops here grow slowly, so it’s essential to minimize impact on the land. The tent city covers varied terrain, so we used modular decking that allows for quick, stable setups on different levels. By fixed-point anchoring and installing decks strategically, we reduce ground disturbance while providing a solid foundation for the snow camping tents.
Tackling Harsh Climate Conditions
Unlike traditional snow camping tents, the tents in the Zhua Xi Xiulong project are designed for long-term use. To withstand the area’s cold, damp climate and ground conditions, Glitzcamp’s modular deck uses an elevated design and durable wood-plastic material with waterproof, mold-resistant, and rot-resistant properties. This high-quality deck provides a comfortable feel underfoot for the tents.
Addressing Unstable Ground
The cold, soft ground often shifts due to extremely low temperatures, making standard foundations insufficient. To solve this, we reinforced the modular platforms with heavy-duty anchors and multi-angle guy wires. This setup helps the camping tent for snow resist lateral forces, reduces shifting from soft ground, and boosts overall stability, ensuring the tents remain secure from all directions.
Summary
Since opening, the tent city built with Glitzcamp snow camping tents has attracted not only local visitors but also tourists from all over China who come to enjoy the beauty of the Tibetan region. After the “Horse Racing Festival” ended in July 2024, the Zhuaxi Xiulong Prairie saw a surge in visitors, with daily attendance surpassing 6,000 people. With this trend, the tent city is expected to welcome over 200,000 visitors annually, generating over 100 million yuan in tourism revenue and providing jobs for over 200 local people. This project has laid a solid foundation for the county’s cultural tourism industry and is driving strong economic and social growth.
